HF International

Higher Preparatory Examination Programme (HF Programme) in English

The Short Road to Higher Education

HF International, abbreviated HFI, is a unique upper secondary programme for non-Danish speaking students found nowhere else in Denmark.

Like its Danish equivalent, HF, HFI is a great education for those, who see themselves pursuing higher education at a university college or a business academy.

The subjects and levels you choose in the HFI influence which programmes you can apply for afterwards. If you have not taken the required subjects at a sufficient level for a programme you wish to apply for, you have the option to upgrade your qualifications through supplementary single subject courses after the HFI. Supplementary single course subjects are only offered in Danish, but because Danish as a Second Language is taught at A-level in the HFI, that should not be an issue for you.

With the HFI, you will get lots of possibilities and opportunities to pursue your dreams!

Special Features of HF International

All your HFI subjects are completed with an oral or written exam. This includes mandatory subjects and elective subjects. Note that you are not given term grades during your studies but will be offered formative evaluation meetings so you are clear on where you stand.

Ready for the Real World

During your studies, you will participate in at least three trainee and project courses courses. These are your opportunities to explore different professions.

Each trainee and project course is linked to at least one subject. The courses combine a practical field-oriented dimension and a theoretical dimension.

Homework-Integrated Teaching

Your first school year involves homework-integrated teaching. This means that homework is done during class time, if possible. This approach, however, demands active participation – it only works if you and your classmates are engaged and focused during lessons. On the plus side, you will often be able to enjoy your free time after school with a clear conscience. A portion of the written assignments is also completed during class.

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must have completed 9-10 years of schooling.
  • Applicants must be more proficient in English than Danish. Danish as a second language is mandatory in HFI.
  • In order to assess your language proficiency in English and Danish, you should expect to sit an admission and/or placement test.
  • If Danish is your first language and you wish to do an English-taught programme, you should instead apply for the IB Diploma Programme.

Please note! Optagelse.dk does not distinguish between HF and HFI, so please make sure to state clearly that you are applying for the HFI, when you submit your application for HF.

Please contact the HFI counsellor, if you have any questions.
